The release of the ARRI Alexa 35 camera is an exciting step forward in digital camera image quality and throws open the door to new creative opportunities for filmmakers. It features a brand new sensor, offering an incredible dynamic range of 17 stops (2.5 more than previous generation ARRI cameras) and high sensitivity for low light levels with minimal noise.
New colour processing technology produces the most vibrant and true colours of any digital camera to date. All of this is packaged into ARRI’s first fully featured small form factor camera.
The super 35mm sensor is compatible with pretty much all cinema lenses, both spherical and anamorphic, and is great for using with some classic vintage lenses like the Cooke Speed Panchros or the Zeiss Standard Speeds.
The camera has a wide range of shooting modes, including some interesting new ones for ARRI - like a 2:1 ratio that has been gaining popularity lately (thanks largely to Netflix). There are also some new anamorphic modes that will record desqueezd footage directly in camera. Check out the different modes here.
Audio recording in-camera is easy with the included audio module that features two high quality preamps and phantom power for running mics directly into the camera. The Alexa 35 also features the same internal scratch microphones that were introduced in the Alexa Mini LF.
The accessory range for the camera is highly configurable, so you can build the camera to suit your preferred shooting style. Improvements in accessory mounting have also made it faster to change configurations, which is particularly useful when switching between handheld, studio and stabiliser setups.
