The Canon C500 MKII has three sensor modes - Full Frame, Super 35 Crop and Super 16 Crop. For each mode you can choose a recording resolution that best suits your project, making the C500 MKII a very versatile camera.
Unlike some other camera systems, the recording resolution isn't locked to the sensor mode in the C500 MKII. This means that you can record as low as 1080p while still using the full sensor and getting a large format look.
Another advantage of this is that, within each sensor mode, the angle of view of a lens does not change when you choose a different resolution (if you want this to happen then you can simply change the sensor mode).
Downscaling footage in camera can be a huge advantage by giving you much longer recording times and less data to backup and store.
Visualising The Different Resolutions
Here's a visual representation of the different sensor modes available in the C500 MKII. For each, you can see the number of sensor photosites used to record, the dimensions of the sensor used and the image circle required to cover the sensor area.
