The Red Epic Dragon offers you great dynamic range, up to 6K acquisition resolution, high frame rates and the flexibility of a RAW workflow. Shoot at up to 100 FPS at 6K, and even higher at lower resolutions. This package offers you a ready-to-shoot Epic Dragon kit at a very attractive price.
Also available with Canon CN-E cinema primes for the same price.
The components in this package are from the top manufacturers in the industry.
You get the Red Epic Dragon body kit with titanium PL mount (or Canon EF mount), five Zeiss CP.2 prime lenses (21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm), six IDX Duo 150Wh batteries that will power the camera for around 12 hours, Arri LMB-25 matte box, Arri FF-5 follow focus kit, IRND filters from Tiffen, Schneider or Formatt and a choice from four industry leading fluid heads and tripods - the higher capacity OConnor 2065, OConnor 2560 or Sachtler Cine 30 HD (paired with a 150mm Ronford Baker tripod package) or the lighter weight OConnor 1030D fluid head (paired with a 100mm Ronford Baker tripod package).
The heart of our Epic + Zeiss CP.2 package is the Epic Dragon camera kit. This includes:
Four 240GB 1.8" REDMAGs are included. Each card will hold approximately 40 minutes of 6K full-frame footage at a frame rate of 25fps and compression ratio of 8:1 (record times are dependent on frame rate, aspect ratio and compression ratio - all of which are user configurable).
You also get five Zeiss CP.2 prime lenses in your choice of PL or EF mount:
This kit includes the 3-stage Arri LMB-25 matte box with top flag and three dual 4x4" / 4x5.65" (PV) filter trays. The LMB-25 attaches to the rig via a 114mm clamp ring for direct attachment to the Zeiss CP.2 lenses. Choose from Tiffen, Schneider or Formatt IRND filter sets.
The lens accessories are rounded out by the Arri FF-5 cine follow focus kit, complete with left and right focus knobs, two whips (30cm and 90cm), speed crank, and 9 marking discs.
You get six IDX Duo 150Wh batteries. Each battery typically powers the camera for around 2 hours, depending on accessory configuration. Additional batteries are available for hire.
An A/C adapter is also included so that you can power the camera via a mains outlet if needed.
You have the choice of either an OConnor 1030D and Ronford Baker 100mm tripod package (tall legs, low legs and hi-hat) or heavier duty OConnor 2065, OConnor 2560 or Sachtler Cine 30 HD fluid heads and a Ronford Baker 150mm tripod package.
The maximum frame rate supported by the Epic Dragon is dependent on capture resolution. Also, when you configure the camera to capture in less than 6K, a higher crop factor is introduced due to sensor windowing (when you decrease acquisition resolution, you are not using the full sensor).
See this Reduser page for a good overview of capture resolutions, maximum frame rates, record times, crop factors, and more.
Accurate back focus is critical on any camera, but particularly so on the Red Epic given the combination of changeable mounts and sensor plane adjustment on the camera itself. Prior to every hire, the flange focal distance of our RED Epic Dragon and Scarlet cameras is verified using a collimator and a specialised lens. Our collimator is also used to verify any cine lenses you might be hiring as part of your camera kit.
